The 5 W’s Of Termite Control

There are plenty of services that homeowners put off for a future date. They think, one day I’m going to have a cleaning service or a lawn care service come to my house to make my life easier. Those things are wonderful and well worth waiting for. However, there is one service that simply cannot wait. Termite control isn’t simply a tool to make your life easier, it’s a tool to make your home safer.

Termites are a small but mighty pest and do hundreds of millions of dollars in damage every year in the United States. Due to our climate, the south is particularly vulnerable. If you’re still on the fence, or unsure if you need to invest in termite control, we’ve compiled a list of the 5 W’s (who, what, when, where, and why) to help.

Who

Hiring the right team for your termite needs matters. As with any other service provider, some important factors make a difference in the type of service you get. One of our proudest accomplishments is having been in business here in the Volusia County area for over 40 years. In that time we’ve protected thousands of households with our pest and termite control services. But it’s not just time in the field that matters most when hiring a termite company. Any time you invite a service provider onto your property you want to be sure that they are trustworthy, respectful, and talented. Our team has built a long reputation for just that, and so should any termite control team you hire. Not all companies are the same, who you hire matters.

What

Our customers often think of termite control in one of two ways. Commonly, when people think of termite control they conjure an image of a home draped in large colorful tarps. This is called fumigation. However, it is not the only type of termite control. Fumigation is required when there is an active infestation in your home and it needs to be treated immediately and thoroughly to prevent further damage. But fumigation isn’t the end of the road when it comes to termite control. Ongoing termite treatment can help to keep your home protected and alert you to new problems should they arise in the future.

When

There is no time like the present to hire a termite control company. Termites are one of those pests that can go undetected for some time in your home. The best line of defense against them is a strong offense. But there is another answer to this question. Termites tend to swarm in the spring and summer. Keep an eye out for swarming bugs and loose wings that signify an impending termite problem. Ultimately, it’s always worth investing in termite control. With ongoing service, you can stop worrying about the state of your home and rest easy knowing that your termite control professional will be back to see you shortly.

Where

We always think about termites infesting our homes, and this is absolutely a problem. But we don’t always think enough about termites on our properties. Often, termites migrate to people’s homes from dead or dying trees, outbuildings like garages and sheds, or even piles of firewood. When you look around your home for signs of termite damage, be sure to check your whole property.

Inside your home, there are a couple of places you will be most likely to see signs of termite infestation. Any wooden structures are vulnerable to termites, if you have an older home that may include your windows, doors, and flooring. Check for places where wood appears to be blistered, this may be a sign of termite damage below the surface. Also, termites leave a trail of excrement behind them called frass that looks like very small balls of wood. If you see this in your home, it’s time to call for termite control help.

Why

Why should you hire a termite control company? The reasons are endless, but the ultimate truth is that termites exist in droves in the state of Florida. If your home is not protected you are very likely to suffer an infestation at some point. Termite control is about peace of mind. While termites don’t gross people out like some bugs and rodents, they can cause extreme damage if not treated properly and promptly.

We hope this list left you with some more clarity about termite control. It is an investment in the future of your home.
