Holder Pest Control

What kind of habitats does a hornet prefer?

Like wasps, hornets use wood from tree branches to build beautiful, papery nests. They prefer to build their nests in secluded areas where they can be unbothered by humans and animals. Often, their nests are built in the branches of trees or in shrubbery, but it’s also common to see them in or around manmade structures like underneath decks, in sheds or garages, in the eaves of a home or barn. Hornets love the warm, humid weather in Florida as they are unable to survive temperatures below freezing.

What damage does a hornet cause?

Hornets build paper nests that require them to scavenge wood from trees and buildings. While they are a nuisance, they’re not doing any serious long-term damage to your property. The worst thing about hornets is their sting, which by all accounts isn’t as bad as one might think. For people who are allergic to hornets, a single sting can have serious consequences. But, for most of the rest of us, a hornet sting is painful and annoying, but doesn’t pack enough of a venom punch to do any lasting damage.
